Description

The 9.25” EdgeHD Advanced VX (AVX) telescope represents a specialized instrument crafted for astrophotography enthusiasts, setting a new benchmark among mid-level telescopes. This kit combines the 9.25” EdgeHD optical tube with the robust Advanced VX equatorial mount and tripod, delivering unmatched astronomical experiences.

EdgeHD Optical Design: The EdgeHD employs an aplanatic, flat field Schmidt optical system, ensuring aberration-free images across a wide visual and photographic field of view. This optical system not only minimizes off-axis star coma but also provides an astrograph-quality flat focal plane that extends to the edges of your field of view.

True Astrograph Quality: The EdgeHD optics produce a focal plane more than three times flatter than a standard Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and surpasses the flatness of competing coma-free designs. This guarantees sharp, well-defined stars, even when using the largest imaging sensors available today.

Advanced VX Mount & Tripod: The Advanced VX mount is meticulously engineered to offer exceptional performance for smaller telescopes while harnessing Celestron's cutting-edge technologies. Features such as All-Star Polar Alignment, Celestron PWI telescope control software, SkyAlign, and permanently programmable periodic error correction (PPEC) enhance your observing and imaging experiences.

Computerized German Equatorial Mount: Despite being the smallest of Celestron’s German equatorial mounts, the Advanced VX boasts impressive capabilities. Its computerized GoTo functionality automatically tracks celestial objects as they traverse the night sky. The mount includes ports for a hand control, an autoguider, and two AUX ports for optional accessories. The NexStar+ hand control provides instant access to all mount functions, with automatic slewing and intuitive menu descriptions, making it accessible to astronomers of all skill levels. The mount's stability is further bolstered by its remarkable tripod, featuring 2”-diameter steel legs for enhanced steadiness.

Payload Capacity: The Advanced VX supports a generous payload capacity of 30 pounds, offering a solid platform for the 9.25” EdgeHD optical tube. This capacity remains robust even when additional accessories like StarSense AutoAlign, Focus Motor, a finderscope, or a camera are attached. Please note that Celestron's payload capacity specification does not include the weight of the counterweights.

Dual Saddle Plate: Advanced VX mounts introduced a dual saddle plate feature in early 2019, accommodating both CG-5 and CGE-style dovetail bars. Switching between the two saddle plates is a straightforward process, enabling compatibility with a wide range of optical tubes within the Advanced VX’s weight limit. The mount is compatible with Vixen format dovetails of 100mm or longer but does not support Losmandy D format plates, irrespective of the plate manufacturer.

Software:

  • Celestron PWI Telescope Control Software: All current Celestron computerized telescopes come bundled with Celestron PWI (CPWI), a comprehensive astronomy software suite co-developed with PlaneWave Instruments. CPWI offers features akin to those used on observatory-class telescopes, including a graphical planetarium interface with PointXP advanced mount modeling for precise alignment and tracking. It's ideal for remote observatory setups, allows alignment and park settings to be saved and re-loaded, and offers a complete ASCOM telescope interface for third-party software control.

  • Starry Night Software: Your purchase includes a complimentary download of Celestron’s Starry Night Special Edition Software by Simulation Curriculum. This advanced software offers detailed information about celestial objects and aids in planning your observing or imaging sessions. Additionally, the Special Edition software enables telescope control via your PC.

Accessories: The Advanced VX 9.25” EdgeHD package includes a 23mm 2" eyepiece, a 1.25” star diagonal, and a 6x30 finderscope. For an expanded field of view without compromising performance, consider adding the optional EdgeHD reducer lens, reducing the focal ratio to f/7. An optional Barlow lens can provide additional magnification for high-resolution planetary, lunar, and solar imaging. Furthermore, all EdgeHD optical tubes are Fastar-compatible for ultra-fast f/2 wide field imaging, featuring a removable secondary mirror and precise opto-mechanical alignment.

Solar Warning
  • Never look directly at the Sun with the naked eye or with an optic (unless you have the proper solar filter). Permanent and irreversible eye damage may result.
  • Never use your optic to project an image of the Sun onto any surface. Internal heat build-up can damage the optic and any accessories attached to it.
  • Never leave your optic unsupervised. Make sure an adult who is familiar with the correct operating procedures is with your optic at all times, especially when children are present.
