The Altair Losmandy Format Saddle Plate is modular, and compatible with the rest of the blue anodised Altair TMS Telescope Mounting System accessory range - for example it can be bolted directly to each end of the Altair Losmandy plates for a strong rigid side-by-side setup, perfect for imaging or visual use with different telescopes.
Feature Summary:
- Part of the Altair Astro TMS range. The most compatible and modular system on the market bar none. Much copied but never equalled.
- Can be bolted directly to Altair 250mm 300mm or 350mm Losmandy dovetail plates to mounting two telescopes side-by-side, so you don't need to buy another purpose built side-by-side bar just for this reason.
- Fits the Losmandy-format wide dovetail plates used by most manufacturers.
- Fits Skywatcher EQ6, HEQ5, and iOptron Minitower mounts with the appropriate Adapter Puck. (Select the puck in the dropdown menu below).
- Fits Skywatcher EQ6 (Orion Atlas), NEQ6, HEQ5 and the iOptron Minitower mount range with the appropriate adapter pucks (select below).
- The clamps have holes for direct mounting to the Losmandy G11 and the sport the Takahashi 35mm Spaced M8 hole pattern which is used on some Tele Optik Giro alt az mounts, Ayo mounts, William Optics EasyTouch, as well as some Takahashi mounts too.
- The clamp is over-engineered to hold larger OTAs. It has "self registering" machined guides balancing the pressure evenly across the plate.
- Easy and safer "tip-in" saddle with chamfered edges making it easier to mount a telescope in the dark without dropping it.
- No sharp edges or poor machining. Unlike cheaper copies these saddle plates are fully chamfered, rounded off, and hand finished so they're not only safer, they look great.
- Safe and easy "tip in" saddle lets you place your telescope quickly and easily while tightening up the clamps with your other hand. This avoids that awkward struggle in the dark, while you try to hold onto a damp slippery telescope, while carefully lining up a saddle plate which will only go in from the end. Based on feedback and requests from several customers who have nearly dropped their telescopes! The chamfered edges to make it even easier to get a heavy OTA placed quickly and securely, before tightening the clamps with your other hand. We recommend the Altair TMS scope carry handles to make this even easier.
- Heavy duty hard anodised star knobs, custom-machined for a positive grip (we tested several iterations to get this right). The knobs have a nylon washer to stop binding, making them easier to undo if over-tightened.
- Heavy duty spring loaded clamp with Stainless Steel M8 threads (unlike cheaper chromed, or zinc plated threads which corrode after a few months when the coating flakes away).
- Readily available and precision CNC machined by us in the UK. The clear silver version looks very nice when mixed with the classic blue anodised TMS range and is slightly more durable when it comes to hard knocks and dings.
Please note: If you have an EQ6 mount and require a puck please choose from the options list below. There are two types of Skywatcher/Orion Atlas puck. Post Sept 08 mounts have the "N" version new puck (USP-C-NEW-EQ6-PUCK) with a conical hourglass profile. Pre Sept 08 mounts require the older puck (USP-C-OLD-EQ6-PUCK) with a straight profile, and side indentations for the mount grub screws. By removing the 3x grub screws surrounding the clamp on your mount and having a look at base of the factory clamp, you should be able to tell which you require.
Two EQ6 puck profiles can be selected below in the product options menu
