AstrOasis Filter Wheel
AstrOasis 7x2" Oasis Filter Wheel (USB-C, Flat 21mm, Clock-Level Precision)
The AstrOasis 7x2" Oasis Filter Wheel was built with a simple goal: make a big-format wheel that’s thin, rigid, light-tight, and repeatably accurate—without the usual “filter wheel drama.” The result is a fully flat, 21mm-thick wheel that runs power + data over one USB-C cable, positions filters with a clever mechanical-switch base-position system, and seals against stray light like it takes the job personally.
-
Completely flat, ultra-clean profile at 21mm thickness
-
Motor is fully internal for a sleek, low-snag build
-
USB-C handles power + data (no separate power input needed)
-
-
High repeatability filter positioning for more consistent flat frames and calibration
-
Uses mechanical switches to define each filter’s true base position
-
Sensor layout focuses on reliable filter identification, not positional accuracy
-
-
Special belt-like friction drive inspired by vinyl record players
-
No gear backlash gaps to mess with accuracy
-
Durable and reliable long-term
-
Generates reverse tension after positioning to help “lock” the filter into its base position
-
-
Large-diameter bearings for smooth, stable disc rotation without adding much weight
-
Central rigidity screw (M4) ties front/back shells together at the center to increase stiffness
-
Serious anti-light-leak design across all common leak paths
-
Shell fitment designed like bottle caps for tight sealing
-
USB-C socket selected to minimize light leak + blackout mat sealing at the port gap
-
Unused screw holes can be sealed from inside with dedicated screws
-
Elastic light-shielding spacer can seal the filter-window interface to camera/OAG
-
-
Filter flexibility: supports 2" mounted filters and 50mm unmounted filters
-
2" mounted filters thread directly into M48x0.75
-
50mm unmounted filters use masks + gaskets
-
-
Camera + OAG compatibility built in
-
Works with ZWO / QHYCCD / ToupTek / Player One cameras
-
Compatible with ZWO / QHYCCD / ToupTek OAGs
-
-
No need to remove the filter disc to bolt it to the camera
-
Access holes allow screws/screwdriver to pass through and mount cleanly
-
Detection system is designed so these holes don’t affect filter ID accuracy
-
-
Cold-weather capable: supports operation down to -30°C
-
Modern control support: USB HID (driver-free), plus ASCOM and INDI options
-
Built-in temperature sensor for monitoring your environment/hardware state
