The Celestron CPC Deluxe HD, a flagship in the altazimuth telescope category, is highly revered by advanced amateur astronomers and was also the telescope of choice for Stephen Hawking. It features an 8-inch EdgeHD optical tube that offers clear, sharp astroimages without any visual imperfections. The NexStar+ hand control, coupled with an internal GPS, simplifies the SkyAlign setup process and provides access to a database of over 40,000 celestial objects. A robust dual fork arm mount, equipped with upgraded gears and motors, provides the telescope with exceptional tracking and accuracy.
Designed with astroimaging in mind, the CPC Deluxe HD includes All-Star Polar Alignment and Permanently Programmable Periodic Error Correction when used with the HD Pro Wedge. The CPC Deluxe 800HD merges superior performance with boundless versatility, making it ideal for everything from casual backyard stargazing to advanced astroimaging in remote, dark sky areas. The CPC/CPC Deluxe series is also a preferred choice for NASA (with a CPC 925 onboard the International Space Station) and was used by renowned astrophysicist Stephen Hawking at his residence in Cambridge, UK.
At the heart of the CPC Deluxe HD's exceptional viewing experience is Celestron’s proprietary EdgeHD optical system. This system is specifically designed to correct coma and field curvature, ensuring aberration-free images and crisply defined stars, even at the edges of the largest imaging sensors and widest eyepieces.
Details on how EdgeHD surpasses other optical systems can be found in the EdgeHD whitepaper, available in the Support and Download section. All EdgeHD systems are treated with StarBright XLT coatings on all optical surfaces, enhancing image brightness and light transmission. Additionally, each EdgeHD optical tube is compatible with Fastar, allowing for rapid f/2 imaging by replacing the secondary mirror with a third-party lens assembly.
The CPC Deluxe is acclaimed for its exceptional versatility. Its solid dual fork arm mount guarantees ultra-precise tracking and is surprisingly lightweight at just 43 lbs, with durable handles for easy setup.
Upon activation, the CPC Deluxe HD guides you through the straightforward SkyAlign procedure, helping you center any three bright objects in the eyepiece. Afterward, it’s ready to locate and track over 40,000 celestial bodies.
To further tailor your astronomical experience, the CPC Deluxe HD is compatible with all of Celestron’s newest accessories. This includes the StarSense AutoAlign for rapid alignment, or the SkyQ Link 2 WiFi Module for controlling the telescope with a smartphone or tablet.
With such versatility, the CPC Deluxe HD is a telescope that will remain relevant and highly functional for years, catering to all aspects of the hobby, including advanced astroimaging.
The CPC Deluxe HD is uniquely crafted for astroimaging, unlike most altazimuth telescopes that focus primarily on visual observation. It boasts high-end features similar to German equatorial mounts. Right out of the box, the CPC Deluxe can track accurately for up to 30 seconds without a wedge, thanks to a newly engineered drive train featuring a 6-inch brass gear, stainless steel worm gear, and ball bearings made of steel and nylon.
For extended exposure astrophotography, adding the HD Pro Wedge transforms the telescope into an ideal setup for astroimaging. This includes utilizing the All Star Polar Alignment process for quick polar alignment and enhancing mount accuracy with Permanently Programmable Periodic Error Correction. Additionally, the CPC tracks seamlessly through the meridian without needing a meridian flip, enabling the capture of celestial objects at their optimal positions in the night sky.
