Description

Player One Astronomy has introduced Uranus-C as the latest camera in their line-up, featuring Sony's cutting-edge IMX585 1/1.2" format color sensor. With a pixel size of 2.9um, this camera boasts a well depth of 47Ke and an 8.3MP resolution (3856 x 2180). The sensor's diagonal measure is quite large at 12.85mm.

High Transmittance Window Uranus-C employs a Super AR Plus window upfront, which allows incredibly high light transmittance ranging from 310nm to 1100nm. This significant enhancement ensures the Uranus-C delivers top-notch performance in both Ultraviolet and Near-Infrared (NIR) spectrums.

Naming Convention The tradition at Player One Astronomy is to name their planetary cameras after planets, like Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune (Earth is excluded). The planetary size in some way reflects the sensor size. These names are elegantly engraved on the camera housing.

Advanced STARVIS 2 Tech The Uranus-C is built on Sony's latest STARVIS 2 technology, featuring back-illuminated pixels in its CMOS image sensor.

Zero Amp-Glow What's especially remarkable about the Uranus-C is its dark frame; no matter how much the curve is adjusted, it displays no AMP glow whatsoever.

Stylish, Ergonomic Design Player One Astronomy adopts a hexagonal shape for the camera's main body, combined with rounded chamfers for a balance of rigidity and flexibility. Its vibrant red hue contrasts beautifully with a subdued black, and the fine matte finish adds an element of luxury.

Second-Gen Sensor Tilt Plate The camera includes a high-density sponge pad to block any sidelight, eliminating leaks.

DDR3 Cache The Uranus-C sets itself apart by being among the first planetary cameras worldwide to incorporate 256M DDR3 cache. This feature stabilizes data transmission, minimizes frame drops, and notably lowers read noise. Even when connected to a USB 2.0 port, the camera performs admirably.

DPS Tech Dead Pixel Suppression (DPS) technology is also a feature, where multiple dark frames are analyzed to identify and mitigate fixed abnormal pixels during imaging.

Cooling System A Passive Cooling System is integrated to efficiently dissipate heat from the sensor.

Safety Mechanisms Built-in overvoltage and overcurrent protections ensure the safety of both the camera and your other equipment.

Data Throughput When using a USB 3.0 connection and full-resolution preview, the Uranus-C can achieve 93 FPS in RAW8 mode (10bit ADC). The frame rate drops to 46.5 FPS in RAW16 mode (12bit ADC). For best performance, a high-quality SSD is recommended for data recording.

Readout Noise Metrics All readout noise values are rigorously tested and can be validated using Sharpcap 4's Sensor Analysis feature. The camera attains a low readout noise of 0.75e at a gain of 350 and about 0.67e at a gain of 450.

HCG Mode The camera also offers an exclusive HCG mode that activates at a camera gain setting of ≥180, significantly reducing readout noise while maintaining high dynamic range.

QE Curve Sony provides a relative QE curve for the Uranus-C, which reveals that the camera is NIR-enhanced and maintains high QE in the infrared spectrum, especially when paired with the Super AR Plus window. The absolute QE peak is about 91%.

Feel free to delve into readout noise testing; it's straightforward and can provide valuable insights.
