Introducing QFocuser: Standard and High-Precision Versions
QFocuser is available in two distinct models: the Standard Version and the High-Precision Version.
The Standard Version is engineered to attach to the standard adjustment axis of your telescope's focusing mechanism, which aligns it with most focusers currently on the market. In contrast, the High-Precision Version is meant for the precise adjustment axis of the telescope's focusing system. Unlike many electric focusers that employ a motor with reduction gears—making manual adjustments post-installation impossible—the High-Precision QFocuser features a non-reducing motor. This means you can still make manual focus adjustments even after the unit is installed, without requiring any power or a clutch switch.
The High-Precision Edge
One standout feature of the High-Precision Version is its near-zero backlash capability. Normally, backlash involves the entire focus system, not just the electronic focuser. Since the High-Precision model utilizes a non-reducing motor (meaning no mechanical reduction gears), any added backlash from the motor is virtually eliminated. Combined with a quality focus mount, the entire system can achieve almost zero backlash. Our tests in NINA software have confirmed smooth autofocus performance with zero backlash settings.
Versatile Mounting and Powering Options
QFocuser offers multiple holes on its bottom and sides, allowing for diverse mounting methods. Unlike traditional mounting plates with fixed holes, this design offers adjustable hole positions and mounting plate heights for maximum compatibility with your telescope. Powering the unit is also flexible, supporting both TypeC-5V and 12V DC inputs. The 5V USB power usually suffices for most applications.
Both the Standard and High-Precision Versions come with an external temperature sensor included, catering to those who need temperature monitoring.
Upcoming and Software Support
An optional manual controller will soon be available, allowing you to operate the electronic focuser directly without needing a computer or touching the focuser itself. QFocuser is compatible with both Windows (via ASCOM drivers) and Linux. The ASCOM driver integrates basic functions such as move, custom current position, limit switches, torque maintenance, and temperature display. It can also be operated using third-party software.
